Bento boxes are fascinating! I love how you can take food and literally make it artwork. I’m not sure if I would get totally crazy with it, but with my 2nd grade placement in the elementary school coming up, I’ve been entertaining the idea of getting fancy with my lunches I’ll be taking in.
Here in Japan, I went with the three, four and five year olds to visit a shrine. We had a picnic at the shrine and the children’s bento boxes were amazing! Their Mom’s really made some effort to create super cute designs.
They were so cute, but a few of the children had normal bento boxes and I wondered if they felt left out, especially because all of the teachers were going around and talking about how cute and nice each one was.
I don’t think I will make characters in my lunch boxes, but I do appreciate the aesthetic presentation! I love how they use color to make the box look so delicious.
