Saffron Road Crunchy (and Delicious!) Chickpeas

Hmm, another foodie post. I never get tired of food! I read a quote the other day:

There is no love more sincere than the love of food. ~George Bernard Shaw

After religion, that might be true for me. ;)

I was super lucky about a week ago to win a giveaway during MarocMama’s twitter talk about Saffron Road’s new chappati wraps. They recently released a whole slew of chappati wraps that make me drool just thinking about them! Chicken Tikka Masala anyone? Oh yeah. :D

Saffron Road Chickpeas [mrs gaeul]

I wasn’t really expecting to get anything, but I was surprised at the end when they told me I had won some chickpeas! At first I thought they were literally going to send me some canned chickpeas (LOL!) but it was actually their spiced chickpea snacks. Boy am I glad I was wrong!

First of all let me just say, they really stocked me up with chickpeas! I’m literally rolling in them. They sent me three huge bags of each of their flavors: Falafel, Bombay Spice and Wasabi. I was really touched that they even wrote me a handwritten note. I mean, who does that anymore?

Saffron Road Falafel Chickpeas [mrs gaeul]

The first flavor that I pulled out of the bag was Falafel, and is my personal favorite of the three. Who doesn’t love falafel? When they say these chickpeas are seasoned with spices, they mean it! Talk about a kick to the tastebuds. I was hit with the falafel flavor right away and it was amazingly delicious. Each bag has a spicy rating on it, and this just has a very slight kick to it that didn’t really bother me although I don’t really enjoy spicy food. Which led me to a problem…

Saffron Road Bombay Spice Crunchy Chickpeas [mrs gaeul]These suckers were going up in spice level! Sad for me, good for the hubby. ;) He loves spicy food so he swooped right in to sample these with me. To be honest I think he was happy he didn’t have to share in the end (even though he was grabbing for the falafel later… sneaky!)! Bombay Spice is an Indian spiced chickpea flavor that has a medium spiciness to it. The flavor is really good and the spice level isn’t too crazy hot yet… I ate some of these as well and enjoyed.

Saffron Road Wasabi Crunchy Chickpeas [mrs gaeul]Whew… here comes the scary part. ;)

I tried one of these for the heck of it because, ya know, why not disregard all my previous history with spicy food? I went running to the sink for water because this flavor is SPICY! Of course, I’m a wimp so it may not be quite as spicy as I’m making it out to be. ;) The hubby gobbled it up though, declaring that this was his favorite flavor.

Saffron Road Chickpeas Ingredients [mrs gaeul]Did I mention that Saffron Road is halal and uses organic chickpeas for their snacks? They are also gluten free, yay! I was happy to see a rather short list of ingredients that I could recognize on the backs of each of the bags. These chickpeas are a keeper! Each chickpea is literally covered with spices and it results in a flavor that just explodes on your taste buds. Crunchy goodness. ;)

I’m thinking that these chickpeas are going to go into the regular rotation of snacks in my house. They are a good healthy snack that is high in protein and dietary fiber… sounds like a win/win to me! A big shout out to Saffron Road for sending me these chickpeas as part of MarocMama’s giveaway! <3 You can find Saffron Road products on their online store or in your local Whole Foods.

Have you ever tried any of the crunchy chickpeas from Saffron Road? If not, which flavor would you like to try?
